Twin brothers, Rysiek and Stefan live in an orphanage run by nuns. The orphanage is situated in a small Silesian town, where the Poles and the Germans live next to one another. The boys are unlucky to grow up in one of the worst periods in the history of the place – during the Third Reich. They will soon be parted only to meet again in extremely unpleasant circumstances a dozen or so years later.

A soldier from South Korea tries to run way from MPs (military polices) chase, jumps into the demilitarized zone (DMZ). Right after MPs pullout, he gathers breath, but realizes his circumstances. He holds his breath and tries to commit suicide aiming his rifle at his mouth. However, he can’t pull a trigger. He senses somebody’s presence that moment, looks around, and discovers another soldier walking near him. He sneaks around behind the soldier and observes the soldier’s behavior. He feels strange because the soldier’s movement is quite different from MPs. He watches the soldier very carefully.
